Changing offices
Dr. Mendenhall will be relocating her Goose Hollow office at Portland Hills Mind and Body, from the second floor to the third floor, starting July 1st, 2010. All other stats remain the same. Come and enjoy the massage chair in the third story waiting room.

Vitamin D and mushrooms
Weird science: Mushroom that sunbathe produce a staggering amount of Vitamin D. A serving of white button mushrooms may be able to produce 869% the daily value of vitamin D if exposed to UV light for five minutes after bring harvested. Wow! Vitamin D is becoming more and more recognized as essential for immune function, for its role in positive mental health, and for strong muscular and skeletal health. In addition to this, mushrooms are known for having powerful anticancer properties. Be careful, though, and buy organic; mushrooms are heavily treated with pesticides and even fungicides.

Sellwood waiting room
As you may have noticed, the Sellwood office is under construction, to make way for a new waiting room. We are hoping it will be completed by September 2010, just in time for fall. Meanwhile, please enjoy the lovely cob benches at the intersection of Sherrett and 9th, and I will do my best not to keep you waiting.

Naturopathic Treatment for Anxiety, a study
Naturopathic more effective than psychotherapy? This study compared psychotherapy treatment to naturopathic treatment for people with severe anxiety. Psychotherapy showed a 30.5% reduction in anxiety symptoms, as compared to a 56.5% reduction in symptoms for those treated naturopathically. Imagine what they could do together!

Fee schedule change
As of August 1st, Dr. Mendenhall’s out-of-pocket rates will be changing, to $160 for an initial consult, and $95 for follow-up. The $95 rate is now all-inclusive for bodywork and for biofeedback within a 60 minute session. Of course, insurance copays and billing will remain the same. This change is a more accurate reflection of Dr. Mendenhall’s time spent, and in part a response to increased expenses, including fees relating to prescription expansion and credit card processing.

Multiplan drops naturopaths
If you have insurance coverage through Multiplan, a company which manages several other insurance companies, you will no longer have coverage to see a naturopath after August 9th, 2010. Check your insurance card; Multiplan members will have a small Multiplan logo printed on the card in addition to the other insurance information. Feel free to protest this decision of Multiplan’s, sometimes insurance companies do make policy changes based on patient input.
